The UK is facing a growing health crisis, highlighted by the rise in cases of occupational lung disease. This silent epidemic reveals critical gaps in regulation and knowledge, which can result in delayed diagnosis and a lack of medical, social and legal support for patients.
Â
It’s time for leading voices in the field to come together and share insights, foster collaboration and explore solutions that will shape the future for those affected.
Â
Throughout the day, we’ll explore the rise in silicosis cases linked to quartz stone, the social gradient in lung health, and a new national pathway for transforming interstitial lung disease services. Our chair, Nick Maskell, Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the Bristol Academic Respiratory Unit, will discuss medico-legal considerations in cases of asbestosis and diffuse pleural thickening.
Â
You’ll also hear our client Paul Rhoden, share his lived experience of losing his brother, Dannie Rhoden, to lung disease. Dannie was a painter and decorator who was diagnosed in his fifties after treating mould and damp in council properties. His story is a stark reminder of the impact lung disease can have on workers and their families.
