What are the latest developments in safeguarding for students? How important is it that steps are taken to tackle this issue in the workplace? What does current best practice look like?
With input from Irwin Mitchell experts and specialist education law and employment law barristers at 3PB, our free webinar will provide you with:
- An overview of the guidance that is available on spotting signs of sexual abuse and harassment, even before any allegations are brought, and appropriate steps to take, taking into account guidance from the NSPCC and guidance produced following the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse.
- A selection of guidance available for teachers and college staff on ABE/best methods of investigating allegations once made, or concerns once crystallised, in terms of pupil/student safeguarding and protecting the interests of both alleged victim and alleged perpetrator. This will include guidance from the National Children's Advocacy Centre, Science Direct, the CPS and the Department for Education’s statutory guidance on Keeping Children Safe in Education.
- An update on the current best-practice advice on conducting such investigations when criminal investigations are also underway/anticipated.
- A ‘how to’ on consolidating all the guidance discussed to assist schools and colleges in developing policies and procedures that join-up - i.e. using the same best practice investigatory methods whether it is investigating allegations of peer-on-peer abuse, or staff-on-pupil/student abuse, or staff-on-staff abuse.
This webinar is suitable for HR teams, safeguarding leads and senior leaders. The emphasis will be on producing a webinar that addresses the law and guidance that is available, and essentially translates it into practical and coherent advice on best-practice and procedure.
