In this webinar, Oliver Carter will be joined by our Welfare Benefits Advisor, Steve Clarke and our Client Support Manager, Michaela Morris who provides emotional and practical support for bereaved families. Together they will provide useful insight and information to assist professionals supporting families through the coronial process to help ensure they have access to the relevant information and support at that time.Â
We’ll also be joined by one of our clients who have personally experienced the inquest process, to share her story about how the Coronial process and the Coroner’s conclusion made a difference to her family.
Â
In the webinar, we’ll talk about:
Â
• Government benefits, Legal support and funding for Inquests
• A family’s perspective of the coronial process
• Emotional and practical support for bereaved families and other witnesses attending an inquest.

Leila Ennis Smith is the mother of Darnell who was only 22 years of age when he passed away. Darnell was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and sickle cell disease and lived a very happy life with his family in Sheffield. He sadly passed away due to complications of treatment for sickle cell disease and an inquest into his death found there were gross failings of care in that respect.
Darnell’s parents have always been strong advocates for those with sickle cell disease but since the inquest into Darnell’s death, Leila is now working with her local NHS Trust and the Sickle Cell Society to improve care and treatment for those living with the disease. Darnell’s family have arranged a fundraiser event in his memory, where all funds raised will go to the Sickle Cell Society.
