I graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1993 from Bournemouth University, working at Salisbury Hospital.
In January 1996, I commenced working at the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre. I worked there for 25 years with the majority of that time in the Outpatient Department, developing the Community Liaison Service as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Spinal Cord Injury.
My role involved supporting the patients after discharge and the Healthcare professionals involved in their care, wherever they were in the community. I was also Tissue Viability lead for the Spinal Centre. I ran training and Education for the patients, Spinal Centre staff and other Healthcare Professionals outside of the Trust. I also ran Outpatient clinics, including the Cauda Equina Syndrome clinics, which were nurse led. Â
I joined SIA in November 2020 as a Spinal Cord Injury Specialist Nurse for the South, Southwest. I support the clinical team in developing and delivering training and education on all aspects of spinal cord injury.
The role also includes supporting patients and other healthcare professionals in their local hospitals, rehabilitation settings with the holistic planning of their care needs.
In January 2021, SIA merged with CES UK. SIA’s support to those with CES grew and our engagement and services have evolved as a result.  More recently, I have been the SIA representative supporting the development of the newly launched NHS Suspected CES pathway.
Angela runs her own business as a textile artist. She is a successful designer, teacher and author. Angela has had CES since 2018, she now has an incomplete spinal cord injury which severely affects all aspects of her daily life. She started driving again last year in a car converted to hand controls. This significantly improved her independence.

She is accredited as a brain injury specialist by the APIL injury Accreditation Scheme and has close links with Headway having been appointed as a Trustee of Headway East London in 2013.
Sarah is also a committee member for the Acquired Brain Injury Forum for London (ABIL) and is keen to raise awareness of acquired brain injury across London and the UK.

Mark Buckingham has been a Chartered Physiotherapist for over 30 years. He has worked in musculoskeletal outpatient / private practice as well as elite sporting environments throughout this time.
His clinic list is a mix of long term rehabilitation patients from orthopaedic and spinal injuries, as well as athletes with more acute issues and injures. Mark has worked with a wide range of orthopaedic and spinal medicolegal cases for 13 years, including advising on the Physiotherapy rehabilitation and management of CES in the long term once the initial medical care has finished.
