We wish to invite you to an exclusive event to explore our new research, ‘Elderly Care Crisis: A Tipping Point’.
We’ll reveal the year in which our aging population will no longer be able to access or afford acceptable levels of care.
Working with Cebr we’ve looked at a number of key contributing factors that will compound the elderly care crisis, and ultimately push it to a ‘tipping point’. Josie Dent, Senior Economist from Cebr and our own panel of experts will share our findings, and put forward recommendations for how the government, local authorities and individuals can all help to ease, if not avoid the impending crisis.

 Guy is a real estate partner at Irwin Mitchell, with over 20 years’ experience in commercial and residential development. His practice is focused on key residential sub-sectors; strategic land, retirement living, build to rent and student accommodation, acting for a number of leading developers, promoters and operators. He also has significant experience in large scale residential-led mixed use regeneration schemes, and heads up the firm’s Retirement Living team.
Kelly is the Head of Later Life Planning and a partner at Irwin Mitchell, specializing in issues affecting the elderly, mental capacity law, elderly financial abuse matters and the Court of Protection. Kelly is one of only 68 solicitors nationwide elected to the Office of the Public Guardian’s national panel of professional deputies.
Jeremy is the National Head of the Residential Property team, and is based in our London office. He’s worked in the residential property sector for over 25 years. Jeremy works not only with UK based and international private clients, but also with property developers and investors. His team covers everything related to residential property.
Mat is a Public Law partner at Irwin Mitchell and specialises in community care, patient rights and mental capacity law. He acts for clients who have ongoing difficulties with social services, the NHS and other public bodies. He has brought judicial review cases on behalf of children and adults seeking appropriate care from their local social services and the NHS.
Mat also acts for clients opposing the closure of care homes, day centres and NHS services and clients seeking to challenge cuts to government funding in health and social care. He advises clients in relation to their rights to healthcare, medical treatment and other clinical disputes. These cases often raise issues of medical ethics and legal arguments relating to ‘dignity’, the ‘right to life’ or the ‘right to healthcare’.
Richard is the Chief Executive and Chief Investment Officer at IM Asset Management responsible for the delivery of our overall client service, covering both Financial Planning and Investment Management. He has over 35 years’ experience in providing Financial advice to individuals, charities and pension funds of all sizes with differing needs and continues to provide day-to-day advice to clients and their families. Richard believes that clients are at the centre of everything, and helping them plan for their future continues to fill the team with a great deal of pride.Â
Josie has led research on several headline generating reports at Cebr, including Irwin Mitchell’s quarterly Powerhouse Cities report and Monster’s Jobs Confidence Index. She’s particularly interested in social care and the UK’s ageing population, and recent examples of her work on these topics include: a study into later life lending for More 2 life; a report on downsizing in later life, called Last Time Buyers, for Legal and General; and an annual report on under-funding in the social care sector for the charity Hft. Josie contributes to Cebr’s members’ service The Prospects Service, commenting on key economic developments and is regularly featured in the national and foreign press.
The Award-Winning Ros Altmann Is the UK’s Leading independent expert on later life issues, with over 35 years’ experience in all aspects of pensions and retirement funding. She’s a visiting professor at LSE and sits as a conservative peer in the House of Lords.
Ros was UK Minister of State for Pensions from 2015 to 2016 and the government’s business champion for older workers from 2014 to 2015. She was Director General of Over-50s Specialists Saga from 2010 to 2013 and an adviser to Andrew Dilnot’s commission on social care funding reform. Ros was awarded a CBE in the Queen’s birthday honours in 2014 for services to pensioners and pension provision and was elevated to the House of Lords as pension’s minister in 2015.
For many years, Ros has championed pensions justice and led a successful campaign to help 150,000 people receive compensation when their occupational pension schemes collapsed. Her work was instrumental in setting up the system of UK pension protection. She appears regularly in the media and writes and comments on economics, pensions, later life and consumer matters.
